CHICAGO LAND RESIDENTS HELP WITH YOUR UTILITIES. PLEASE READ VALUABLE INFORMATION. Posted on Sat, Feb 14 2009If you or someone you may know needs HELP!!!!!!! Assistance is available. If you know someone on the Chicago land area who is at least 1 month behind on their rent or utility bills, there's a Catholic Charity facility at 1120 W. 79th St that offers people financial assistance in paying their past due rent and utilities.
In order to qualify, you have to be able to prove that you are at least 1 month behind in the bill. You also have to provide proof of employment and or some type of income. It's believed that you must be employed in order to take advantage of this service; however I (Annette) went into the location in South Holland, IL and had other income coming in that was not from an employer and Catholic Charities sent a check to ComEd. Catholic Charities also offers very helpful programs like job placement and food distribution for unemployed and homeless persons. They ask mandatory questions, and
Will contact your landlord/utility company directly to acquire all the proof of debt that they need. It's believed that most landlords and companies will be willing to work with the organization...
From what is understood all financial assistance from Catholic Charities via checks are sent check directly to the landlord/utility company, so no, you will not be seeing a dime of the money (Lol). This is probably just to protect against fraud. It's believed that the charity is at least partially federally funded, so most of the money is there just waiting for the community to utilize.
Even if you do not need this, PLEASE pass it along. You'd probably be surprised at how many people in your contact list could use it, or know of someone else who could. Attached is a link to the organization's website below for anyone who'd like more information: http://www.catholiccharities.net/services/emergency_assistance/
